As the summer sun beats down with full force, daily life becomes a struggle for many—especially those who spend long hours outdoors. At Kalkichhaya Foundation, we recognize the severe impact of heatwaves on daily wage workers, street vendors, rickshaw pullers, and countless others who have limited access to drinking water.
The Need for Action
Extreme heat not only causes discomfort but also poses serious health risks such as dehydration, heatstroke, and exhaustion. In cities and towns, people on the streets suffer the most. Many cannot afford bottled water or find safe public sources of hydration. That’s where our “Beat the Heat” campaign steps in.
What We’re Doing
Through this campaign, Kalkichhaya Foundation is placing earthen water pots (matkas) on roadsides, markets, and other high-traffic public areas. These matkas are filled with clean drinking water and regularly maintained to ensure hygiene. The cool, naturally filtered water provides instant relief and serves as a lifeline for many during peak summer.
Our volunteers not only install these matkas but also spread awareness about staying hydrated and recognizing symptoms of heat-related illness.
A Small Act, A Big Impact
Sometimes, the simplest efforts can make the biggest difference. A sip of water in scorching heat can mean the world to someone with no access to it. The “Beat the Heat” campaign is a humble yet powerful step toward compassion, care, and community well-being.
